Abstract
This book explains the development of various laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (LDN) techniques, which can be performed via the retroperitoneal or the transperitoneal approach. It provides a step-by-step explanation of LDN, including details of intricacies such as port positioning, dissection steps, securing the hilum and retrieval.áIt also reviews new techniques like robotic donor nephrectomy and single-port donor nephrectomy. Lastly, it explores the non-technical but equally important issues of donor work-up and legal and social aspects. LDN is a unique surgical procedure in which the surgeon operates on an individual who is not a patient but someone donating out of altruistic motives, and it has to be "zero error" for the safety of the graft, donor and the recipient. This handbook is a valuable resource for urologists, general and transplant surgeons as well as anesthesiologists and medical social workers working in the field.
Contents
1. The Evolution of Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy: Has It Now Become the Gold Standard? -- 2. Preoperative General and Urologic Evaluation for Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy -- 3. Psychosocial and Legal Issues with Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy -- 4. Anaesthesia Concerns for Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy -- 5. Laparoscopic Left Donor Nephrectomy (Transperitoneal Approach) -- 6. Laparoscopic Right Donor Nephrectomy (Transperitoneal Approach) -- 7. Hilar Control in Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy: Clips, Staplers and Other Methods -- 8. Retroperitoneoscopic Donor Nephrectomy -- 9. The book aims to present information on the topic in a clear and logical way, with the help of figures, tables, and images that will assist in the practical application of the skills that are obtained from the book. The growth of new technologies and the continued development of existing techniques have led to a considerable number of new options that can be offered to patients by urologists. Despite these advances, challenges still remain and this book offers individual solutions to each aspect of the management of small renal masses, so that every diagnosis can be tailored to each patient. Written by leading experts, this bookágives expert insight and advice into the diagnosing and managing of this condition. From making an accurate diagnosis to selecting the appropriate treatment for the patient, this book will provide a comprehensive guide on all aspects of the management of small renal masses.
