Abstract
Finding all the information necessary to treat or meet the nutritional requirements of patients who are severely ill or establish new protocols has historically been problematic. This is addressed in Diet and Nutrition in Critical Care. This major reference work encapsulates the latest treatments and procedures to meet the dietary and nutritional needs of the critically ill. Where evidence is available this is presented. However, where evidence is absent, the authors highlight this and provide guidance based on their analysis of other available data and their clinical experience. Diet and Nutrition in Critical Care is a three volume set which addresses the needs of all those concerned with diet and nutrition in the critically ill and covers General Aspects, Enteral Aspects, and Parenteral Aspects. Each volume is stand alone and is further divided into separate sections. The Sections in the General Aspects are: General conditions in the severely ill; General metabolic effects and treatments; Assessment protocols; General nutritional aspects; Specific nutrients; Adverse aspects. The next two volumes Enteral Aspects and Parenteral Aspects contain the following sections: General aspects and methods; Specific nutrients; Specific conditions; Adverse aspects and outcomes; Comparisons or dual parenteral and enteral support or transitions; Preclinical studies. The authors recognise the limitations in simplistic divisions and there is always difficulty in categorising treatment regimens. For example, some regimens involve transitions from one feeding protocol to another or the development of co-morbid conditions and in some cases enteral support may be supplemented with parenteral support. This complexity however, is addressed by the excellent indexing system. Contributors are authors of international and national standing, leaders in the field and trendsetters. Emerging fields of science and important discoveries relating to artificial support will also be incorporated into Diet and Nutrition in Critical Care. This volume represents a one stop shop of material related to enteral and parenteral support and is essential reading for those specialising in intensive and critical care, dietitians, nutritionists, gastroenterologists, cardiologists, pharmacologists, health care professionals, research scientists, molecular or cellular biochemists, general practitioners as well as those interested in diet and nutrition in general.

Abstract
This book addresses the causes and effects of nutrient deficiencies along the cell-to-communities continuum. The book is primarily concerned with a lack or deficiency of one or more micro- or macronutrients in connection with malnutrition, under nutrition, and starvation. Embedded within the deficiency states is acute restriction whereby food is withdrawn completely for short periods, as when individuals are adhering to religious requirements or undergoing surgical procedures. Further downstream is the consumption of a fraction of the normal diet, as when individuals are dieting or when there is restriction in the amount or variety of food available. The causes of such reductions in dietary intake are varied and also include the social context of poverty, financial limitations, and famine. Refugees and displaced persons may also be vulnerable to under nutrition or total starvation. Diseases may also impact on the total food consumed, such as when there are physical impediments (intestinal obstruction or dysphagia) or anorexia (induced by organic disease or as a disease process per se, ie, anorexia nervosa). This book, organized as approximately 125 chapters in 17 major sections, covers the variable manifestations of dietary restrictions on cells, whole organs, the individual, and societies.

Abstract
This book presents the latest insights into the role of nutrition and diet in the pathophysiology and clinical outcome of many digestive diseases, including gastrointestinal cancer, gastroesophageal reflux, gastroparesis, diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, obesity, autism and other severe neurological diseases, and liver disease. The editors have aimed to build upon the dissemination of scientific information on human health and nutrition that took place at Expo Milano 2015 (theme: "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life") by bringing together distinguished experts in gastroenterology from prestigious Italian universities and hospital centers to tackle novel topics in human nutrition and diet. In the context of modern, high tech gastroenterology, it is easy to neglect or underplay the importance of factors such as nutrition. Readers will find this book to be an excellent source of the most recently acquired scientific knowledge on the topic, and a worthy legacy of Expo Milano 2015.

Abstract
This book highlights the reality of malnutrition among school-age children in India and relates it with dietary adequacy, diversity and choice. Using empirical data from field research conducted in Karnataka, India, it documents the nutritional status of school-going children, and examines the socio-economic determinants. It provides insights into changing dietary patterns by analysing case studies from households and schools; and documents the impact of changing dietary choices on the daily nutritional intake of young children. As the issue of nutrition for school-age children is one that is largely neglected in the literature, the book fills an important gap. The book also investigates the policy framework for addressing the nutritional needs of school-going children, and assesses the available government-sponsored interventions in terms of their efficiency and effectiveness, measured by their impact on the nutritional indices of the target group. It offers concrete reco mmendations for changing the nutritional intake of school-going children. Navigating through the socio-cultural causes for changing food choice and their impact on children's nutritional outcomes, this book shows a viable path to addressing malnutrition, taking into account both macro-level policy constraints and the micro-level perspectives of families, schools and communities.

Abstract
While the benefits of modern cancer treatments are becoming ever more evident, many cancer patients continue to be at risk for developing physiological and psychological treatment effects that may lead to premature morbidity and death. Nutrition is one important aspect that needs to be considered throughout the clinical spectrum of patient care and management. Malnutrition and its related symptoms are both frequent and deleterious consequences of treatment in cancer patients. Targeted nutritional interventions offer a new avenue for the prevention or management of malnutrition, cognitive impairment, obesity, osteoporosis, and other symptoms of critical significance. Despite the importance of nutrition in ameliorating the symptoms of cancer treatment, publications providing up-to-date information on novel nutritional approaches and strategies are lacking. This book is intended to fill the void by describing in detail the nutritional strategies that may be employed to alleviate a wide variety of cancer treatment effects. The guidance provided will help to improve the survival and quality of life of cancer patients, and has the potential to dramatically affect how evidence-based clinical practice is established and improved over the coming decade. The author is a distinguished expert in the field who has more than 25 years of experience in oncology nutrition and has been involved in establishing and implementing a Clinical Nutrition Oncology Program

Abstract
The book revisits the causes of persisting undernutrition in India, but moves away from the usual focus on women and children to a broader view of the entire population. It estimates the economic losses resulting from ignoring undernutrition in the adult working population, and questions the current narrow focus of nutrition interventions, suggesting that a family-based approach may provide quicker results and long-term sustainability. It compares the best and worst performing states in the country to glean learnings from both successes and failures and emphasizes the need to hand over the ownership of nutrition outcomes from the state to the community and family for more sustainable results. The book is organized in three sections: Part 1 details the nutrition status of the population, regional variations in nutrition outcomes, and government response in terms of interventions. Part 2 reviews issues and concerns like gender discrimination, poor child nutrition status, ineffective implementation of government programmes in the field, and the possible impacts of emerging issues like climate change. Part 3 seeks solutions from both international and country experiences.
Contents
India's Nutrition Scenario: Issues and State Response -- Changing Calorie Consumption and Dietary Patterns -- Does Gender Still Determine Nutrition Status? -- The Costs of Persisting Adult Undernutrition -- Why Child Undernutrition Persists in India -- Exploring Child Undernutrition Further: Best and Worst Case Scenarios -- The Additional Burden of Anaemia -- Do Nutrition Interventions Work in the Field? Reality Check -- Factoring Climate Change into the Nutrition Scenario -- In Search of Solutions -- A Family-Based Approach to Nutrition -- Making the ICDS Effective -- Improving Nutrition Status: Lessons from International Experience -- Conclusions -- Fast Tracking Nutritional Improvements in India.
