What is an obstetrical brachial plexus injury? When passing through the birth canal, one of the baby's shoulders can get caught, causing excessive stretching of the neck and nerves travelling through it. This can result in some or all of the nerves being stretched apart or torn out of the spinal cord. This pamphlet gives parents information on ways to help with recovery, what the long-term outcomes might be, what to avoid.
