Abstract
This volume describes the most relevant and cutting-edge technological news on the complex surgical procedure of acoustic neuroma. The clinical-radiological diagnosis and surgical indications are briefly presented and the surgical technique is illustrated step-by-step: video clips show the latest means of treating these patients. All these indications were prepared by highly experienced experts in the field, based on their personal experience. The new technologies discussed concern e.g. the intraoperative identification and position of the facial nerve, hearing preservation, techniques for dural closure, and the usefulness of laser and ultrasound aspirators. The book also discusses a number of ongoing projects, including those on: diluted papaverine for microvascular protection of cranial nerves, flexible endoscope for IAC control of tumor removal, fluid cement for bone closure, administering aspirin to control residual tumors larger than 7mm, and DTI for preoperative prediction of the position of the facial nerve. This is a highly informative presented book providing surgeon interested in acoustic neuroma with necessary information on modern technologies available for improving the results of patients.

Abstract
To an unusual degree, the shared 'working space' of otolaryngologists and anesthesiologists means that issues important to one are important to the other. Anesthesiology and Otolaryngology is the first book to address the closely overlapping information needs of both groups of specialists. It is collaboratively written and edited by anesthesiologists and otolaryngologists, and the chapters are carefully designed to insure maximal relevance to members of both specialties. The heart of the book consists of chapters on managing patients during the full range of otolaryngologic procedures. These chapters are structured chronologically, and otolaryngologic and anesthesiologic perspectives are systematically presented for each operative stage. Foundational topics such as gross and radiographic anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology are covered. The book includes a unique chapter on oxygen delivery systems that serves as a comprehensive review for anesthesiologists and an overview for the otolaryngologist. Special topics addressed include acute and chronic pain management, and the logistics of managing an office-based surgical practice. All-in-one reference for otolaryngologists and otolaryngologic anesthesiologists -- Surgical and anesthesiologic perspectives marshaled for pre-operative, intraoperative, and postoperative periods -- Pearls and Insights at end of chapters -- Organized by surgical region -- Special challenges of difficult airway and of pediatric otolaryngologic procedures addressed.

Abstract
This book covers all aspects of narrow band imaging (NBI), including research, general principles and diagnostic features in various ENT pathologies. In addition to highlighting the advantages of NBI over white light endoscopy for the detection of early cancers and lesions that are less than 1 cm in diameter, the book offers a step-by-step approach to help readers easily grasp various pathologies of the upper aerodigestive tract. It discusses both malignant and non-malignant aspects of NBI and provides extensive information on inflammatory lesions of the upper aerodigestive tract, including various clinical features of laryngopharyngeal reflux. Subsequent chapters cover the most difficult aspects of NBI in treated mucosa (post-chemo radiated), in which the potential recurrence of disease is a key question. It also addresses the limitations of NBI, including false positive and false negative cases. Given its scope, the book will benefit otolaryngologists, oncosurgeons, radiation oncologists and oral medicine practitioners, as well as graduate students of ENT, radiotherapy, oral medicine and oncosurgery.

Abstract
This book presents the state of the art in atrophic rhinitis and analyses its specific characteristics in non-allergic rhinitis. Little has been written on this condition, which represents a topical issue in modern clinical practice, and as such many clinicians tend to underestimate its impact on patients’ quality of life. This book covers the definition, aetiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis and management, providing specialists with a better understanding of this condition and of the treatment options. It describes in detail the latest diagnostic tools, such as the innovative computational fluid-dynamics studies, nasal cytology, trigeminal stimulation tests, olfactometry, subjective questionnaires, with a focus on the psychological aspects, which have not yet been systematically investigated. Further, it discusses therapeutic strategies, both medical and surgical, reviewing the literature, from the first historical procedures to recent conservative techniques, such as lateral nasal wall reconstruction with various materials, and septal perforation repair. Illustrating all the options currently available, the book is an invaluable resource, not only for otolaryngologists, but also for plastic surgeons, clinical allergists and rheumatologists.

Abstract
Carcinomas of the larynx and hypopharynx present unique challenges when it comes to their assessment and management. Management involves the essential dilemma of optimizing cure rates while also ensuring that potential disability due to compromised airway, voice and swallowing is minimized. Treatment decisions involve careful disease assessment, judicious multispecialty decision-making, and subsequent meticulous implementation of the selected treatment modalities. The critical nature of each of these steps has led to dramatic advances in assessment techniques (radiology, endoscopy and photography, stroboscopy, narrow band imaging, contact endoscopy) and also in treatment methods (radiation therapy, combined concurrent chemo-radiation, combined sequential chemo-radiation, trans-oral CO2 laser and robotic surgery, partial laryngectomy, total laryngectomy, extended total laryngectomy). As such, treatment decisions have become increasingly complex with the twin objectives of maximizing cure as well as function preservation and are based on tumor stage, tumor location, systemic co-morbidities, nutritional status, patient priorities, and social and economic factors. This multidisciplinary book has been written by a team of editors with considerable experience and expertise in these critical areas and a deep understanding of teamwork and the strengths and limitations of individual technologies and treatments. It presents a homogeneous and unbiased view that is applicable to all specialties involved in the care of larynx and hypopharynx cancers.

Abstract
This book examines in detail many rhinologic issues that are not covered in other books, are still not completely understood, and can be difficult to deal with clinically. In each chapter, three authors – a young otorhinolaryngologist, a senior author, and an international expert – elaborate on a specific issue, such as the role of immunotherapy in treating nasal polyps, the management of rhinitis during pregnancy, how rhinitis can differ in adults and children, how to choose between open or endonasal rhinoplasty, the ideal form of anesthesia for nasal surgery, etc. The volume will appeal to a wide readership, from otorhinolaryngologists to allergists and facial plastic surgeons, as well as trainees and students in related fields.

Abstract
This atlas focuses on selected aspects of cochlear anatomy as illustrated by material prepared by the microdissection technique, a three-dimensional perspective not possible with standard histological approaches. Although much of the material in this text was processed by the microdissection method, photomicrographs from conventionally cross sectioned inner ear tissues and scanning electron microscopy, are also presented. Taken together, these technical approaches provide different, complementary views of inner ear anatomy, and offer a more informative understanding than is possible with any of the methods used alone. While micrographs obtained from microdissected material appear sporadically in journal articles, there is no comprehensive collection of such images currently available. The illustrations assembled in this atlas are complementary to the more traditional histologic images and drawings available in standard texts, and aide in understanding the intricate anatomy of the cochlea. Cochlear Anatomy via Microdissection with Clinical Implications will be a useful resource for otolaryngologists, anatomists, audiologists, and neuroscientists. Those engaged in cochlear implantation, physicians and researchers in the growing fields of implantable hearing aids and drug delivery to the inner ear, and members of industry involved in designing, manufacturing, and marketing implantable hearing aids will also find this atlas of great value.
Contents
1. Microdissection for Study of Cochlear Anatomy -- 2. Anatomy of the Helicotrema and Cochlear Apex -- 3. Microdissection in Cochlear Implant Research -- 4. Implantation via the Round Window and Cochlear Hook Anatomy -- 5. Scala Tympani Vasculature and Possible Vascular Injury During Cochlear Implantation.
