An important topic covered extensively is how hospitalists are being called to lead on the current opioid epidemic, given that they are well-suited in responding to complicated challenges crossing all specialties. Other chapters explore worldwide practice patterns and practical application of philosophical tools in daily practice. This up-to-date resource provides hospitalists, advanced nurse practitioners, medical students and administrators with the latest research, trends and issues in hospital medicine.

Abstract
Gynecological cancers are some of the most commonly occurring malignancies in women. Despite their high incidence, treatment and management of these cancers remain controversial, with conflicting evidence about many aspects of the disease. Controversies in the Management of Gynecological Cancers offers a unique assessment of the opposing sides of the controversial issues associated with gynecological cancers, and aims to provide professionals in the field with a keener sense of the underlying evidence-base and a starting point from which to follow the ongoing debate. A section on the direction of future research to resolve these issues completes the discussion in each chapter. This book will appeal to specialists, trainees and healthcare workers in gynecological oncology, gynecologists, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists, and is an excellent starting point for anyone who wishes to gain a better understanding of the complex nature of the management of gynecological malignancy.

Abstract
While the healthcare system continues to shift towards more emphasis on quality metrics, there remains a substantial gap between the expectations of healthcare policies and standards of hospital administrations vs. the realistic care provided by the average healthcare provider. This book offers the perspective of the healthcare provider and aims to fulfill the unmet need to educate other healthcare providers on recognizing quality measures and understanding how to achieve them to meet standards of quality care. This book covers the historical perspective of quality measures, the context of their existence, their utility, and the contemporary issues related to their use. Simultaneously, it critically addresses the quality of these quality metrics and presents the evidence available to date on the efficacy and the limitations of these quality measures. This text is all-inclusive and is organized into chapters that include the evolution of quality metrics in healthcare, the practical role of hospitals, as well as the practical role of individual healthcare providers in addressing quality metrics. The chapters also include assessment of quality metrics that uniquely pertain to medical and surgical practices, as well as non-clinical quality metrics that specifically target undergraduate and graduate medical training. Finally, the book reflects on the use of contemporary quality metrics and their impact on outcomes, patient care, and public health and policy making. In these chapters, tables and illustrations, including algorithms, will be used to provide systematic approaches to common issues related to quality metrics. In addition, historical anecdotes and case presentations will be used to address pearls in contemporary practice of quality metrics. Quality Measures is the definitive reference on quality metrics in healthcare and is a valuable resource for healthcare providers, trainees, administrators and public health agencies.

Abstract
Beginning with a review of current trends in health care delivery leading to more value-based platforms, this unique and up-to-date book then focuses on how modern spine care is being shaped by the aging population, scientific and technological advancements, and the economic impact of various treatment modalities, providing insight into the seminal efforts surrounding sustainable spine care guideline development. The over-utilization of spine fusion surgery and adult spinal deformity are presented as examples that have led to a decline in the value of care delivered, as well as how a multidisciplinary evaluation by the range of clinicians involved in spine surgery can revise recommendations for management. The benefits and risks of LEAN methodology for streamlining and standardizing spine care approaches are discussed, and the specific approach of the Seattle Spine Team is presented as an example of successful system-wide improvement. Similar changes to outcome measurement, specifically for adult spinal deformity, are described. Last, the future of technology in spine care is presented, including robotics, nanotechnology, 3D printing, and the use of biologics and biomaterials. Given the broad scope of topics covered in this book, the intended audience includes not only orthopedic and spinal surgeons, neurosurgeons, physiatrists, and medical students, residents and fellows, but also hospital CEOs, CMOs, administrators, health services researchers, and health care policymakers, consultants and strategists.
