Abstract
Anesthesia for Trauma is a comprehensive, clinically oriented text for practitioners and trainees in anesthesia, pain management, and critical care. It covers core topics, from initial assessment and blood and blood products, to the multi-trauma patient and trauma by major anatomical region. Burns receive especially extensive coverage. Special considerations when administering anesthesia to traumatically injured children, pregnant women, and older people are reviewed, as are foundational areas such as clinically relevant physiology and the growing role of trauma simulation in training. Readers will find leading edge coverage of microvascular surgery, pain management, and critical care of trauma patients as well as up-to-date chapters on trauma in the military, civilian trauma systems, and disaster management. The book concludes with a unique 'must-read' chapter for all clinicians on the link between substance abuse and penetrating trauma.

Abstract
This book describes current, evidence-based guidelines for damage control interventions across the field of trauma care with the aim of enabling clinicians to apply them to best effect in daily clinical practice. Emphasis is placed on the need for trauma surgeons and their teams to recognize that optimal damage control in severely traumatized patients depends upon the combination of immediate assessment, resuscitation, and correct surgical management. The book opens by examining the evolution of damage control and the very significant impact that military damage control interventions have had on civilian emergency health care through improvements as simple as bandaging and tourniquets. Damage control measures in different specialties, including neurosurgery, orthopedics, vascular surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, anesthesia, and critical care, are then covered in detail. Readers will also find helpful information on a range of other important topics, such as the role of pre-hospital care providers, damage control within the emergency department, adjuncts of damage control, and damage control in austere environments. This book is a must read' for all clinicians in the trauma field.

Abstract
Whether switching on the TV, picking up a newspaper or simply logging on to the internet, one is constantly faced with images of natural disasters, conflict and human suffering. Humanity has experienced these problems throughout time and we have evolved methods and mechanisms for alleviating suffering, from trauma care following a traffic accident to international pacts and the Millennium Development Goals. In exploring such diverse cases of aid intervention, Disaster Medicine: A Case Based Approach provides interesting, easily accessible content and context for understanding disaster medicine and global health. In each case the reader will be put in the position of the decision maker and as in real life some of the cases will portray success and some will show failure. It is hoped the reader will consider the issues and problems for themselves and perhaps consider things they would choose to do differently. Written by a team of experts with extensive experience in the field and a progressive perspective Disaster Medicine: A Case Based Approach is a valuable text for students and professionals of disaster medicine.

Abstract
This book provides clear, concise guidance on the surgical management of all kinds of emergent vascular problems and focuses in particular on open surgical strategies. The aim is to provide a combined text and hands-on guide that will permit rapid retrieval of information when treating vascular surgical patients in the emergency room. Emergency Vascular Surgery: A Practical Guide is organized into two sections, on specific body areas and general concepts. The first section covers the body from head to toe, with separate chapters for injuries and non-traumatic disease, while the second discusses general principles relating to emergent vascular surgical practice and provides broad vascular surgical guidelines for the inexperienced surgeon. Chapters in the first section are uniformly organized, addressing incidence, etiology, and pathophysiology; clinical presentation; suggestions for workup and diagnosis; and management and treatment. Initial management, selection of patients for emergent surgery, and the performance of common vascular surgical procedures are all carefully explained. The focus on a hands-on approach and practical tips will be invaluable in the clinical setting for both more experienced surgeons and newcomers to the field.

Abstract
External Fixation in Orthopedic Traumatology is a textbook that focuses on the use of external fixation in the acute management of patients with serious orthopaedic injuries. The book highlights the indications for external fixation and provides an evidenced based guide to both the specialist orthopedic surgeon and the trainee. The manuscript is organised in 14 chapters covering the indications and surgical techniques for pelvis, lower limb and upper limb injuries, including detailed illustrations and clinical photographs that will enable the reader to rapidly visualise the structure of the construct and to plan the surgery accordingly. More general topics such as damage control orthopedics, the biomechanics of external fixation and medico-legal considerations surrounding the injured patients are also included to provide an overall picture of the Orthopedic trauma patient. The Combined experience of the editors and authors, their involvement in a number of external fixation system designs and their international reputation in the field contribute to making this textbook an essential tool that should be available to all orthopaedic surgeons dealing with injured patients.

Abstract
This book is designed as an easy to read reference and practical guide to the management of combat extremity injuries, which account for a high percentage of the injuries sustained in recent and current conflicts. The surgical techniques appropriate to the full range of extremity injuries and some other frequent injuries, such as trauma to the spine and pelvis, are clearly described with the aid of helpful illustrations. In each chapter a bottom line up front approach is adopted, providing key messages first; a further important feature is the emphasis placed on case-based information and lessons learned from practice. Care has been taken to ensure that the advice provided is straightforward and in line with military clinical practice guidelines.

Abstract
The second edition of Front Line Surgery expands upon the success of the first edition, providing updated discussion of practical management of commonly encountered combat injuries. This edition reflects the cutting edge of combat casualty care, refined principles of surgical management of specific injury patterns, and incorporation of the spectrum of recent research advancements in trauma care. Each chapter continues to follow the same organization as the first edition. The "BLUF", or bottom line up front, headlines each topic, providing the critical pearls for the reader, followed by a focused and straight forward discussion of management, pitfalls, and recommendations. In addition, select chapters conclude with a section discussing the application of this topic in civilian practice, as potentially encountered by the rural or humanitarian relief surgeon. Additional new topics include: REBOA and endovascular techniques for hemorrhage control, updates in transfusion and resuscitation practice, active shooter situations, rural trauma management in developed nations, advancements in prehospital care and the Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TC3) course, and discussion of the newest generations of topical hemostatic agents and tourniquets. These additions serve to both enhance the breadth and depth of the material relevant to military surgeons, but should also further expand the applicability and interest in this work to all civilian trauma surgeons.

One of the most common problems for spinal cord injury patients is urinary system dysfunction. The book Functional Bladder Reconstruction Following Spinal Cord Injury via Neural Approaches introduces how to solve this problem using multi-disciplinary approaches. From animal model studies to surgical techniques as well as successful case reports, six kinds of surgery are presented in separate chapters. This up-to-date monograph will be a valuable resource for surgeons, urologists and neurologists caring for spinal cord injury patients. The contributors are a group of surgeons working in the fields of orthopaedics and microsurgery.

Abstract
The purpose of this book is to give providers of all levels a simple and essential source of practical information in treating the elderly trauma and emergency surgery patient. The Introduction instructs practitioners how to evaluate and assess risk including frailty and use this information in Goals of Care discussions to facilitate shared decision making so crucial to this population. The individual chapters consist of best practices and care guidelines from some of the most well-known thought leaders and best trauma centers in the country across the spectrum from geriatricians to trauma and acute care surgeons and nurses. Each chapter contains easy-to-read algorithms and references that the readers can use and adapt for their own setting. Chapters on Pre-hospital care will help guide EMS organizations and even systems in the right care and triage of the elderly. Each chapter also contains a Nursing Focus section for helpful nursing tips in caring for the eld erly with those injuries and problems. These sections make this book a must-have for any center looking to improve its care of the elderly patient or just trying to be sure its care is already the best it can be. A special section on Post Acute Care will introduce the provider to the common issues surrounding particular disposition destinations for the elderly patient. This will facilitate discussions with families, case managers and facilities to help improve time to disposition.
