Abstract
This pocket guide is a single-volume source of the most common and important formulas and laboratory values used in the daily practice of acute care and critical care medicine. Information is presented in outline format and as tables, graphics, and algorithms to facilitate quick look up. Acute and Critical Care Formulas and Laboratory Values is designed to help clinicians interpret clinical data, apply formulas, understand laboratory values, and integrate this information with their knowledge of pathophysiology to promote the delivery of evidence-based care. Essential formulas and laboratory values. Multiple ways to derive a value, where appropriate. Non-clinical formulas useful for understanding physiologic concepts or that underlie diagnostic tests or clinical measurement.

Abstract

This book presents recent advances in the pure sciences that are of significance in the quest for alternatives to the use of animals in research and describes a variety of practical applications of the three key guiding principles for the more ethical use of animals in experiments – replacement, reduction, and refinement, collectively known as the 3Rs. Important examples from across the world of implementation of the 3Rs in the testing of cosmetics, chemicals, pesticides, and biologics, including vaccines, are described, with additional information on relevant regulations. The coverage also encompasses emerging approaches to alternative tests and the 3Rs. The book is based on the most informative contributions delivered at the Asian Congress 2016 on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences. It will be of value for those working in R&D, for graduate students, and for educators in various fields, including the pharmaceutical and cosmetic sciences, pharmacology, toxicology, and animal welfare.

It provides a manual of current practice and is an easy-to-use resource for case examination for consent, medico-legal and radiological autopsies. External realities and checks are discussed at the beginning of the book, which goes on to cover specific body cavities and organ systems in detail. The book ends with chapters on topics including forensic autopsies, specialist sampling, toxicology analyses and the radiological autopsy. Atlas of Adult Autopsy is aimed at practicing pathologists, particularly those in training grades. It may also be of interest to anatomical technicians in autopsy suites, as well as parties with a legal interest in autopsy practice.

Abstract
Clinicians undergoing competency testing, certification, and periodic recertification are frequently faced with computer-based exams designed to evaluate clinical acumen and judgment. Test questions often include an image or radiograph followed by a vignette of the clinical encounter and a series of questions. Designed to better prepare practitioners for image-intense, computer-based examinations in their respective fields, Atlas of Human Poisoning and Envenoming is a visual and written reminder of the ubiquitous sources of toxins and toxoids in the environment and the outcomes of accidental or intentional toxic exposures in humans. The 2nd ed. has been restructured with bulleted text, tables, and figures resembling the vignettes that accompany national examinations. Combining the four specialties of toxicology analytical, medical, environmental, and industrial into one comprehensive atlas, the book presents photographs and diagrams of toxic plants and animals, their mechanisms of poisoning or envenoming, and the human responses caused by toxic exposure. Highlights include: Prescription and illicit drug abuse epidemics; Environmental and occupational nephrotoxicology and neurotoxicology; Tick paralysis; Petrochemical toxicants; Biological, chemical, and radiological warfare agents; Workplace substance abuse screening and monitoring; Epidemiological design and statistical analysis of toxicological investigations. The book is conveniently divided into four sections covering general medical toxicology, environmental toxicology, industrial and occupational toxicology, and epidemiology and statistics for toxicology. Supplemented with a 16-page color insert, the second edition includes new images and tables. The atlas will be a useful study guide for a range of practitioners preparing for a lifetime of image-intense national examinations.

Abstract
Basic Principles of Forensic Chemistry is designed to provide a clear and concise understanding of forensic chemistry. The text begins with an introduction to the basic principles of chemistry and expands through organic chemistry into forensic investigation. The detailed chapters focus on both the theoretical and practical aspects of forensic chemistry with emphasis on controlled substance testing and identification. Leading experts in the field contribute general examination techniques followed by applications to more specific models. In addition, the text contains a comprehensive collection of information and data on controlled substances commonly encountered in forensic investigation including; detailed structural analysis, physical and physiological effects, functional group reactivity, and results of analytical examination. Also illustrated is arguably the greatest challenge to the forensic chemist: the investigation and processing of clandestine laboratory operations. The Forensic Chemistry Laboratory Manual is included on a CD-ROM and contains a collection of practical exercises designed to support theoretical principles covered in the text. This provides the student with valuable hands-on experience while adding clarity and continuity to the topics of discussion. Essential and comprehensive, Basic Principles of Forensic Chemistry provides the fundamental knowledge required for a rewarding journey into the field of forensic chemistry.

Abstract
This volume focuses on cadmium (Cd) exposure, its effects on human health, the mechanism of Cd accumulation and the development of mitigation technologies. Further, it discusses clinical, epidemiological, agricultural, toxicological, and biochemical aspects of Cd pollution and presents recent biochemical studies on molecular mechanisms of Cd cytotoxicity and cellular transport as well as the mechanism of Cd-induced disturbances in phosphorus (P) metabolism. It also provides insights into the pathophysiology of itai-itai disease, a serious condition caused by Cd pollution. Cadmium: New Aspects in Human Disease, Rice Contamination, and Cytotoxicity is a valuable resource for scientists involved in heavy metal toxicology, botanical sciences, and regulatory sciences. Abstract
This book provides a comprehensive update on the state of the art in cancer immunology, which has rapidly evolved from a field of clinical research into an established discipline of oncology. The key recent developments in immuno-oncology are all covered, from the ever-changing immunological and regulatory frameworks to the most promising therapeutic concepts. Themes include combination therapies and personalized medicine, as well as identification of biomarkers to guide the clinical development of new approaches and to pinpoint the optimal treatment for each patient. The book acknowledges the continuing dynamic nature of the field as reflected in the development of next-generation immunotherapies that are already in clinical testing. Cancer Immunotherapy Meets Oncology is dedicated to the lifetime achievements of Christoph Huber, founder and chair of the Association for Cancer Immunotherapy (CIMT). It is also a tribute to those researchers and clinicians who are striving to develop novel diagnostics and tailored immunotherapies for the benefit of cancer patients.

Abstract
Legalization of marijuana is becoming increasingly prominent in the United States and around the world. While there is some discussion of the relationship between marijuana and overall health, a comprehensive resource that outlines the medical literature for several organ systems, as well as non-medical societal effects, has yet to be seen. While all physicians strive to practice evidence-based medicine, many clinicians aren't aware of the facts surrounding cannabis and are guided by public opinion. This first of its kind book is a comprehensive compilation of multiple facets of cannabis recommendation, use and effects from a variety of different perspectives. Comprised of chapters dedicated to separate fields of medicine, this evidence-based guide outlines the current data, or lack thereof, as well as the need for further study. The book begins with a general overview of the neurobiology and pharmacology of THC and hemp. It then delves into various medical concerns that plague specific disciplines of medicine such as psychiatry, cardiology, gastrointestinal and neurology, among others. The end of the book focuses on non-medical concerns such as public health and safety, driving impairment and legal implications. Comprised of case studies and meta-analyses, Cannabis in Medicine: An Evidence-Based Approach provides clinicians with with a concise, evidence-based guide to various health concerns related to the use of marijuana. By addressing non-medical concerns, this book is also a useful resource for professionals working in the public health and legal fields.
