Abstract
This volume provides integral knowledge of all aspects of stroke care and rehabilitation after stroke, and is therefore highly relevant for nurses who work in rehabilitation centers. It outlines the several phases after stroke, for example the type of care patients may receive in the chronically phase at home. Nurses will obtain knowledge about treatment, importance of observation and caring with a special focus on communication problems, swallowing problems, activities of daily living, urinary and defecation problems, shoulder and hand issues. Thanks to photographs, nurses will learn to transfer patients in the adequate positions. Several chapters provide nurses with examples of effective and efficient collaboration with multidisciplinary professionals, informal caregivers and patients themselves. There is also an emphasis on behavior and cognitive functioning. And lastly, in the final chapters authors highlight the organization of rehabilitation and integrated care issues. Nurses play a very important role in rehabilitation, education, counseling, prevention, and caring for patients with cerebrovascular accident (CVA). In caring for stroke patients, nurses need specific competences and abilities that go beyond the general neurologic knowledge and experience. Nurses need to collaborate in an efficient and effective manner with multidisciplinary team members in their organization and across organizations. This book discusses medical aspects and specific symptoms of a stroke, as well as the limitations that patients experience, and which interventions are indicated for recovery.
Contents
1. Stroke: medical aspects -- 2. Acute phase -- 3. Recovery after a stroke -- 4. Therapeutic climate -- 5. Multidisciplinary collaboration -- 6. Skills -- 7. Swallowing disorders -- 8. Communication disorders -- 9. Activities in daily life (ADL) -- 10. Urinary incontinence after stroke -- 11. Problems with the shoulder and hand due to hemiplegia -- 12. Cognition, emotion, and behavior -- 13. Post-stroke neuropsychiatric symptoms -- 14. Care in the chronic phase: care at home -- 15. Integrated care pathways after stroke -- 16. Abstract
According to reports in the literature, despite the severe disruption of carpal anatomy, fracture-dislocations of the wrist are missed on clinical and radiographic examination in a high percentage of cases. Orthopedic surgeons' lack of familiarity with these injuries is one of the factors contributing to failed or delayed diagnosis. This richly illustrated book covers all types of wrist dislocation and fracture-dislocation. Detailed information is provided on anatomy and biomechanics, while terminology and classification of injuries are explained. Treatment options are thoroughly analysed, with special emphasis on surgical treatment, which is presented step by step. All of the figures--radiological and surgical--relate to patients treated by the author himself. Most of the cases are from the Red Cross Hospital of Athens that admits many patients with such injuries, in part through referral from other centres due to the author's acknowledged expertise in the field. This volume, with its highly informative and up-to-date chapters and reviews, and a wealth of color figures, will be of great practical value for clinicians and residents in orthopedic surgery, who assist them in daily decision making.

Abstract
This book serves as a roadmap for the development and application of patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures, supporting beginners through to experts, as a practical guide. To elucidate on key concepts in the book, examples from clinical research in hyperhidrosis and health-related quality of life and medicines clinical development context, are used. Health-related quality of life represents one of the most commonly measured PROs in both routine clinical practice and research. The book demonstrates the importance of PROs to patients with chronic disease and how such outcomes can assist clinicians in managing patients and monitoring their response to treatment in terms of both symptoms and impacts. This book will benefit readers as a single-source practical guide on the development of modern PRO measures and may also serve as a blueprint for the conceptualization and planning of evidence generation related to PROs in various settings. Ideas and suggestions on how to navigate recent developments shaping the field of PRO measurement are also offered. Dr Paul Kamudoni (PhD MSc.) is a Scientific Associate Director in the Global Evidence and Value Development—R&D department at Merck KgaA in Darmstadt (Germany) where he leads the Centre of Excellence for Patient Reported Outcomes. Dr Kamudoni trained as a Pharmacoeconomist and a Clinical Outcome Measurement Scientist at Cardiff University. In his day to day work, he is involved in the development and validation of PRO measures, and the design and integration of PRO endpoints in clinical trials and other types of studies. He maintains an active research interest in methodological issues in the integration of electronic health records with prospective PRO assessments, and the application of item response theory in PRO measurement among others. Dr Nutjaree Pratheepawanit Johns (PhD PharmD) is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and melatonin research group, Khon Kaen University, Thailand. She has held a number of academic positions both in Thailand and abroad, including a fellowship at the Western Institutional Review Board (WIRB) (Olympia, WA, USA). Dr Johns has an expertise in cancer care and quality of life (QoL) research and collaborates with several cancer centres in Northeastern Thailand. She has developed and tested a number of PRO measures including cross-cultural adaptation into the Thai language. Dr Johns is also a principal investigator in many clinical trials investigating the effects of disease or interventions on QoL of cancer patients. She has been a recipient of several prestigious awards including Scholarship for Developing Country, International Society for Quality of Life Research and the Doyle Prize: Postgraduate section, Palliative Medicine Journal. Professor Sam Salek (PhD RPh FFPM FRPS MCMS FESCP) is Professor of Pharmacoepidemiology at the University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, visiting Professor at the Estate of Hessen, Germany, and Director of the Institute for Medicines Development, Cardiff, UK. Professor Salek's research focuses mainly on four areas: development and application of PRO measures; drug safety evaluation and pharmacovigilance; pharmacoeconomics and economic evaluation of healthcare; and pharmaceutical regulation & medicines development in the mature and emerging markets. He has published 22 books and 600+ journal articles and abstracts. Professor Salek is a member of five Editorial Boards and an active member of several societies.

Abstract
The fully comprehensive book brings together the three main pelvic specialties (Urology, Gynecological Oncology and Colorectal Surgery) into one volume. Patients have been shown to benefit from a multidisciplinary approach since it allows surgeons of different specialties to learn from one another therefore enhancing the treatment for the patient. Pelvic cancer outcomes are poor in low volume centres. These centres account for 80% of the global centres dealing with these cancers. Pelvic Cancer Surgery: Modern Breakthroughs and Future Advances is a much needed book that can focus training and assist health professionals in their care of patients with pelvic dysfunction. Pelvic Cancer Surgery: Modern Breakthroughs and Future Advances is complete with full color illustrations and schematic diagrams and makes use of key points and stepwise figures for an enhanced learning experience.

Abstract
Minimal extracorporeal circulation (MECC) systems have been designed in order to reduce dramatically the side-effects of conventional extracorporeal circulation while serving as a safe perfusion technique for open heart surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. However, the low penetration of this technology in contemporary practice means that few surgical centres have accumulated sufficient experience to share it with the scientific community. Furthermore, much of the knowledge on the use of MECC systems in cardiac surgery is widely dispersed in the literature. This book aims to provide an up-to-date and comprehensive overview of MECC, offering practical advice on how to use MECC systems for those new to the field as well as tips, pitfalls, results, and latest developments. It also offers a systematic review of all published studies on a variety of MECC systems. The book will enable physicians to gain a better understanding of these new systems as well as to understand the rationale for their use in cardiac surgery. MECC requires a multidisciplinary approach, and this book will serve as an essential reference for all health care professionals working in the cardiac surgical operating room, in particular cardiothoracic surgeons, anaesthesiologists, and perfusionists.
Contents
Introduction -- Pathophysiology Of Cardiopulmonary Bypass -- MECC Equipment -- Perfusion Principles -- Surgical Considerations -- Anaesthetic Management -- Clinical Outcome: MECC Vs. CECC And OPCAB -- MECC In Valve Surgery -- MECC In Non-Coronary And Non-Valve Procedures -- Future Perspectives -- MECC - The Perfusionist's Point Of View. -- One Decade MECC: From A Pioneering To Standard Procedure -- Epilogue -- Erratum -- Glossary -- Index.

Abstract
In the last decades, major advances have been made in assisted reproductive technologies (ART) and the public demand for these procedures has increased globally. All ART clinics, from those just starting out to the well established, must employ the latest equipment and implement the best practices, while ensuring that their resources are effectively engaged to optimize patient outcomes. This is a tenet of the fiduciary role of physicians and it is increasingly recognized as a quantifiable goal regulated by formal certifications and accreditations. Quality management protocols such as those proposed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) are being rapidly adopted as standards of measure. Quality Management in ART Clinics: A Practical Guide provides easily adoptable ways to implement and improve formalized quality management systems. Essential to any clinic to achieve best practices and maintenance of formal regulatory certifications, this book brings together the know-how of experienced opinion leaders operating in key areas worldwide. The book offers an overview of primary regulations in the ART field, with attention to quality management demands, and links specific requirements to practical steps for implementation. Filled with process and procedure examples, flow diagrams and administrative form templates, this book is the first of its kind, gathering the necessary elements for optimizing practice, management, and quality assurance.

Abstract
This book focuses on predictive, preventative and personalised medicine (PPPM) and how it is related to the healthcare of rare diseases. Readers will discover how advanced rare diseases healthcare provides an excellent "proof-of-principles" for the personalisation of healthcare systems on a global scale. Chapters look at national plans for rare disease, at biobanking, gene identification, rare cancers, virus gene therapy, induced pluripotency for cell therapy amongst other topics. There is a chapter dedicated to personalised medicine for hereditary deafness, and another exploring the complexity of genotype-phenotype correlations. Specific diseases such as Fabry's, Gauchers and mitochondrial cytopathies are highlighted and we look at enzyme replacement therapy in lysosomal storage diseases. This work is part of a series, produced with the involvement of the European Association for Predictive, Preventive and Personalised Medicine. The series focusses on the concept of an integrative medical approach by PPPM. This volume is dedicated to all aspects related to the prediction, prevention and personalised treatments of rare diseases, and in doing so it explores developments relevant to all medical branches. The authors cover ethical considerations, the creation of a robust platform for professional communication, synergies with patient organisations, "doctor-patient" collaboration and a new philosophy of integrative medicine by PPPM. This volume serves as a reference source for scientific and medical centres in the field and can be used both at medical curricula and graduate level in the life sciences. Those who place a special emphasis on healthcare promotion and innovations intended to combat rare diseases, save the affected lives and enhance life quality will all find this book of great value.
