Abstract
This book will help the reader to recognize, diagnose, and efficiently treat most of the acute abdominal disorders that may be encountered in the pregnant patient, whether associated with or incidental to the pregnancy. A wide range of conditions are addressed, including some which are very rare as well as those more frequently seen, such as acute appendicitis and acute cholecystitis. The principles underlying diagnosis and therapy are clearly explained. Particular features in the clinical presentation of pregnant patients are highlighted, and specific diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms and protocols, described. Attention is drawn to the diagnostic difficulties that may arise from atypical presentations in these patients and to restrictions on the use of certain diagnostic imaging studies. The text is complemented by more than 200 figures relevant to clinical practice. Acute Abdomen During Pregnancy is designed to meet the needs of both the gynecologist and the general or abdominal surgeon, who together form the multidisciplinary team mandatory for effective treatment that will safeguard mother and baby.

This is a French translation of the English pamphlet 1847, “Options for Birth after Cesarean”. This pamphlet explains the options available to women who have had a baby by cesarean birth (sometimes called “cesarean delivery”, “c-section” or “CS”). Women who have had a cesarean often give birth vaginally in their next pregnancy. This may be referred to as Trial of Labour after Cesarean (TOLAC) or Vaginal Birth after Cesarean (VBAC). When you can plan for a VBAC, what makes a VBAC safe and successful, as well as the benefits and risks of VBAC, are listed.

Abstract
This book is designed to present readers with comprehensive, high-quality research results on almost all aspects of this carcinoma in clinical management, from correct determination of the esophagogastric junction, issues on cardiac mucosa, epidemiology, and natural history, to clinical, endoscopic, and histopathologic features and diagnostic pitfalls of this carcinoma at both early and advanced stages. Once diagnosed and correctly staged, clinical management of this carcinoma at the early stage is addressed primarily with endoscopic therapy employing the latest endoscopic technology such as endoscopic submucosal dissection, in which detailed technical topics of the endoscopic therapy are written by experts in the field with sections from pre-resection staging and patient preparation to post-resection complications and management. Subsequently, clinical management of gastric cardiac carcinoma at advanced stages is discussed at length with a personalized, multidiscipline approach with strategies from surgical resections with various methods, to pre-, peri- and post-resection chemoradiation therapies as well as the most advanced immunotherapy. A state-of-art approach with the results of meta-analyses and large-scale randomized double-blinded clinical trials are employed throughout these chapters. For patients at the terminal ill stage, the appropriate palliative care plan is presented by experienced clinicians armed with the latest clinical practice guidelines to better manage and help those patients in the last period of their lives.

Abstract
During the past decade, the medical and surgical treatment of ulcerative colitis has undergone dramatic advances, including the widespread use of immunomodulators, biological drugs, and restorative proctocolectomy. In order to correctly balance the risks and benefits of medical therapies and surgical procedures, there is a need for improved diagnosis of colonic disease, acute complications, extraintestinal manifestations, and early and delayed postoperative complications. Cross-sectional imaging techniques are therefore playing an increasing role in the assessment of ulcerative colitis and provide an essential complement to clinical data and endoscopy. This practical, illustrated volume on the role of cross-sectional imaging is aimed at radiologists, gastroenterologists, and surgeons who are engaged or interested in the diagnosis and care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, particularly ulcerative colitis. After an overview of diagnostic imaging techniques, state-of-the-art assessment of colorectal inflammatory disease with CT colonography using water enema and bowel MRI is discussed, followed by description of the plain radiographic and CT findings in patients with acute exacerbations and surgical complications. Subsequent chapters review the diagnostic findings and role of cross-sectional imaging in the assessment of sclerosing cholangitis (with emphasis on MR cholangiopancreatography), vascular complications (particularly portal and mesenteric thrombosis), colitis-associated colorectal cancer and perianal inflammatory disease. Normal postoperative appearances and early and delayed complications in patients treated with proctocolectomy and ileal pouch-anal anastomosis are also comprehensively reviewed.

Abstract
This book is distinctive in that it focuses exclusively on current laparoscopic and endoscopic techniques for inguinal, primary and incisional abdominal wall, and hiatal hernias. Individual steps in diagnosis and treatment are described by experts in the field, but this clinical expertise is also integrated with the best available external evidence from systematic research as encapsulated in statements, recommendations, and guidelines. The reader will thus not only learn how to perform techniques systematically and reproducibly but also come to understand which of the procedures have been scientifically validated by studies, reviews, and meta-analyses and which have simply developed empirically. The descriptions of technique are supplemented by detailed guidance on such aspects as indications, anesthesia, aftercare and pain management, and the prevention and management of complications. Where appropriate, careful comparisons are made of competing repair options, including open techniques. In summary, this book will help practicing surgeons to standardize their operative technique so as to reflect current scientific knowledge and thereby improve the quality of laparoscopic/endoscopic hernia surgery.

Abstract
This book offers an essential guide to surgical approaches to the umbilicus. The navel is the only natural scar in the body, accepted for all human beings all over the world. Its absence or distortions can have negative psychological impacts, as it normally lends beauty and harmony to the otherwise unattractive abdomen. The aesthetic importance of the navel justifies the increasing amount of individuals undergoing abdominoplasty and omphaloplasty. However, these surgeries may lead to a series of complications or unintended aesthetic outcomes. Indeed, the postsurgical final aspect of the umbilicus is the main stigma and primary source of problems and complaints following abdominoplasty. In this book readers will find a complete surgical guide to the most important surgical approaches and strategies related to the navel, helping them to deliver a high standard of quality and patient-tailored surgical and aesthetic outcomes. Written by a renowned plastic surgeonswith more than 20 years of experience, Omphaloplasty - A Surgical Guide of the Umbilicus offers readers an overview of general and innovative surgical techniques for the umbilicus, helping them to make the best choice when performing abdominoplasties.

Abstract
This volume offers a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the major surgical procedures performed on elderly patients. With advancing age the conditions that require surgery normally increase in incidence, and today all surgeons around the globe can be considered "geriatric surgeons". The latest anesthesiological procedures, the technical improvements and an increased medical knowledge of the comorbities impact have brought extraordinary advances in this field, but this should not allow us to forget that a careful assessment of elderly patients is necessary before undertaking surgery, since also the simplest surgical procedures could alter the delicate psychophysical equilibrium of these "frail" patients. Introduced by a demographic panorama and analysis, the book describes the anesthesiological management, the preoperative assessment and preparation, the perioperative care, and hemostasis control connected with the main surgical pathologies: gastrointestinal, endocrine, neoplastic, vascular and hepato-biliary, as well with traumatic and non-traumatic emergencies. It will be an invaluable, easy-to-use resource for clinicians, researchers and trainees alike.
Contents
Section 1: General Principles and Epidemiology: Aging from demography to epidemiology -- Anestesiological management of elderly patients -- Principles of Geriatric surgery -- Perioperative management of elderly patients -- Haemostasis and thrombosis in elderly patients -- Section 2: Endocrine Surgery: Thyroid and parathyroid glands Breast cancer -- Adrenal diseases and endocrine pancreas -- Section 3: Gastrointestinal System: Benign esophageal disease -- Esophageal cancer -- Cancer of the stomach -- Inflammatory bowel disease. In this first volume, practical, up-to-date guidance is provided on the optimal critical care and ICU management of trauma patients. In addition, individual chapters focus on specific injuries in orthopaedic trauma (and especially spinal trauma) and neurotrauma, with the aim of providing a fresh view of the surgical approach and practical suggestions for improving the skills of treating surgeons. Educational issues and the organization of a trauma center are also covered. The volume will be a handy pocket guide for trainee surgeons and any surgeon, physician, or nurse who treats trauma patients. It will be particularly relevant for emergency department physicians, critical care and ICU doctors, orthopaedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, and professionals responsible for trauma care and decision making, programs of trauma education, or organization of a trauma center.

Trauma surgery has increasingly become a specialized field inspired by different principles and philosophy. A good trauma surgeon is a surgeon who knows how to perform abdominal, vascular, thoracic, urologic, gynecologic, and orthopaedic procedures and is able to repair multiple traumatic injuries in the best sequence possible. In this second volume the focus is exclusively on thoracic and abdominal trauma, with coverage of injuries to all regions. The surgical techniques employed in managing such trauma are carefully described with the aid of high-quality illustrations. Exploratory surgery (via either laparotomy or laparoscopy), damage control surgery, and definitive surgery are all fully covered, and attention is drawn to important technical tips and tricks. The volume will be a handy pocket guide for trainee surgeons who are beginning to deal with severe multiple trauma patients, as well as for all general or specialty surgeons and professionals (including scrub nurses and theatre staff) who are involved in trauma care and wish to keep abreast of developments in this complex field.
