A hysterectomy may be performed in different ways. Through discussion with your physician, the operation which is best suited for you will be chosen. Your ovaries may or may not be removed at the time of surgery. Your doctor may discuss removing your fallopian tubes as well, with our without your ovaries. Should a problem be found, your surgeon may remove one, or both ovaries. As long as you have one ovary, you will continue to produce female hormones.
Formerly titled "Gynaecology Surgery". All about having gynaecology surgery at the IWK Health Centre. After going to Admitting, present to the pre-operative area on the 3rd floor IWK Women's Site. You will be directed to an area where a nurse will help you prepare for surgery. You will change into a hospital gown. Glasses, contact lenses, partial plates and dentures must be removed. If you have capped teeth, crowns, bridges, or plates, tell the nurse or anesthetist.
What is a Cystoscopy? This is a procedure that uses a small telescope (cystoscope) with a lens and light to see the inside of the bladder and urethra (where the urine comes out).
A laparoscopy is done for a variety of diagnostic and treatment reasons. Your doctor will have talked to you about this. The laparoscope is a lighted telescope that is used to look at the inside of the abdomen and /or to do some operations.
One of the most difficult times for many bereaved mothers is when their breast milk comes in. Other mothers find the presence of their milk a comforting reminder of their body’s ability to care for the baby they so love and had wished to care for. Everyone grieves in their own special way and there is no right or wrong way to manage your breastmilk coming in.

An ectopic pregnancy (also called a tubal pregnancy) is a pregnancy that happens outside of the uterus, usually in the fallopian tubes. This is a possible medical emergency and can lead to death if not treated. Methotrexate is a medication stops cells from growing so that the further growth of the pregnancy stops. The tissue will be reabsorbed by your body or pass with your next period.
How to insert and remove your pessary.
A tool given to patients with information they need for pre-admission, surgery day, and post-surgery (for adult gynaecology surgery at the IWK Health Centre). Patients are asked to bring the passport with them both to their pre-admission appointment and on the day of surgery. This patient passport is for urogynecology patients who will be part of an enhanced recovery pathway.
