Having day surgery (with Adult Surgical Services, Women's & Newborn Health Program, IWK Women's Site) means you will not stay at the hospital overnight. You will come to the IWK Health Centre the day of surgery, and then return home after a short stay in the Recovery Room (Post Anesthesia Care Unit- PACU).

Endometrial ablation is a procedure that destroys (ablates) the uterine lining, or endometrium. This procedure is used to treat abnormal uterine bleeding. The endometrium heals by scarring, which usually reduces or stops uterine bleeding.
Patients with lower urinary tract symptoms may have one or more of several conditions which can cause these complaints, including: urinary tract infection, urethral syndrome, unstable bladder, or a loss of support at the bladder base with urinary incontinence (a condition we call "genuine stress incontinence"). Urodynamics testing is useful to assess patients before any surgery or other treatment is carried out.
Dilation and curettage (D&C) is a procedure in which the cervix is dilated and a special instrument is used to scrape the uterine lining. A D & C is done for different reasons, such as; for heavy bleeding, bleeding after menopause or to remove tissue after miscarriage.

A laparoscopy is done for a variety of diagnostic and treatment reasons. Your doctor will have talked to you about this. The laparoscope is a lighted telescope that is used to look at the inside of the abdomen and /or to do some operations.
A tool given to patients with information they need for pre-admission, surgery day, and post-surgery (for adult gynaecology surgery at the IWK Health Centre). Patients are asked to bring the passport with them both to their pre-admission appointment and on the day of surgery. This patient passport is for urogynecology patients who will be part of an enhanced recovery pathway.
